How to Play FrankenSketch

Get started in five steps

1. Get everyone into a room

   One player chooses Create room and shares the invite link or six-character room code. The host picks the settings in the lobby, then starts the game.

2. Same prompt, separate drawings

   Every artist gets the same prompt. Draw without seeing anyone else's picture, then choose Submit. Your drawing is submitted automatically when time runs out. If you submit early, choose Continue drawing to keep going while your original time lasts and the reveal has not started.

3. See the pieces come together

   When everyone has finished drawing, four pieces join into one square picture. See what strange creation you have made together.

4. Find out the prompt

   With a guesser, that player looks at the combined picture and submits one answer. Without a guesser, everyone sees the picture and prompt together right away. Send a heart or a stone from the name tags in the corners of the result to react.

5. Play again or keep your creations

   After each result, the host chooses Next round or Wrap up. At wrap-up, revisit, save, and share the results. The host can choose Play again to start right away with the same settings and players, or choose Back to lobby. Anyone can choose Leave room.

Need people to play with? Enter a nickname and choose Quick match on the home page. It connects two to four players in a Normal room with no guesser and built-in prompts. Choose the same button again to cancel while waiting.

Drawing styles and time

Normal — draw your assigned pieces

Each artist gets different pieces to draw on a large canvas. If you get two pieces, draw them one at a time. You cannot view or edit the previous piece while drawing the next. The default is 15 seconds per piece.

Crop — draw a whole picture, then combine

Everyone draws a complete picture of the same prompt. At the reveal, pieces are cropped from each picture and combined into one. The default is 60 seconds per full drawing.

Choose a color and pen width, or use line, rectangle, circle, fill, eraser, clear, and undo.

The host also picks the prompt source in the lobby. With custom prompts, each player contributes one prompt of up to 32 characters after the game starts.

With or without a guesser

You can turn the guesser on or off in both Normal and Crop.

• Guesser on: 3–5 players — one player is the guesser and does not see the prompt. The others draw, and the guesser tries to identify the prompt from the combined picture. Nobody is the guesser again until everyone has had a turn.
• Guesser off: 2–4 players — everyone draws, then sees the result and prompt together.

The host chooses 10, 15, or 20 seconds for guesses in the lobby; the default is 15 seconds. Answers can be up to 32 characters, and submitted answers cannot be edited. When time runs out, any valid answer already entered is submitted automatically. No answer means no correct guess.

A doodle board while you wait

Guessers take turns adding to a shared doodle board. You can edit your own drawing, but cannot erase or cover earlier guessers' work. The board has no fill tool.

Enjoy the reveal and keep your drawings

You do not need to draw well. Mismatched pieces can make the funniest monsters. There is no in-game chat or voice, so try an external voice call, such as Discord, to share your reactions.

At wrap-up, save or share the selected picture as a PNG, or save the collection as separate files or one collage. Sharing and download options depend on your browser. Export images are created on your device and are not uploaded to the server.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on phones?

The game is designed for phone, tablet, and desktop browsers. Use portrait orientation on phones. If saving or sharing does not work in an in-app browser, open the game in a regular browser such as Safari or Chrome.

Do I need an account?

No, just a nickname. The game is free, with no downloads, sign-ups, or payments.

Can I stream it or make videos?

Yes. No prior approval is needed and monetization is allowed. The full terms and assets are in the press kit.

How many people can play?

2–5 players: 3–5 with a guesser, or 2–4 without one.

How long is a round?

It depends on the settings and how many pieces you draw. Drawing time ranges from 5 to 90 seconds; in Normal, each piece has its own timer. Role introductions and guessing also take time. There is no fixed number of rounds: the host chooses whether to continue after each result.

What happens if someone disconnects?

If the room is still open and the reconnect window has not expired, reconnect or reload the same tab to resume. Round timers keep running while you are disconnected. If you cannot resume, create a new room or rejoin an open one. The group can play another round as long as the minimum player count is met.

Which languages are supported?

Ten: English, 한국어, Português, Español, 日本語, Français, Bahasa Indonesia, ไทย, Türkçe, and Tiếng Việt. The interface and built-in prompts follow your selected language, which you can change mid-game. Custom prompts are not translated.

Is there a score or a right answer?

A guess is correct when it matches a registered prompt. Spacing, hyphens, letter case and katakana/hiragana differences are ignored, and you can leave out accent marks. Typos and synonyms do not count. Wrap-up ranks everyone who took a turn as guesser by correct guesses, and ties share a rank. Select a name to see the records and drawings from their turns as guesser. With the guesser off, revisit and save your drawings without a score list.
