Accessibility Statement

FrankenSketch aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA for everything that is not the free-hand drawing itself. This page lists what the game currently does, where a drawing party game has inherent limits, and how to tell us about a barrier.

Target
WCAG 2.2 Level AA
Status
Partially conformant — see the known limits below

1. What currently conforms

  • Contrast. Text and interface colors are checked against the 4.5:1 (text) and 3:1 (controls and focus rings) minimums in an automated test that runs with the code.
  • Keyboard focus. Every control has a visible focus ring. When the game moves to a new screen, focus lands on that screen's heading so you know where you are. Dialogs trap focus while open and return it when closed.
  • Reduced motion. If your system asks for reduced motion, the slideshow does not auto-advance and reveal animations are replaced by direct state changes.
  • Target size. Buttons, tabs, and slideshow controls are at least 44 × 44 CSS pixels, including on 320 px-wide screens.
  • Dialogs. Settings, leave, remove-player, save-results, and delete-data dialogs are labelled, modal, and closable with Escape.
  • Language. The interface is available in ten languages; the page language attribute follows your choice so screen readers switch voices.
  • Status messages. Copy confirmations, connection changes, drawing progress while you wait, and the revealed prompt and guess are announced through live regions without moving focus.
  • Character-key shortcuts. Drawing shortcuts (1–9, Q, W, E) are available without changing a setting; E also undoes on the doodle board. Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes the last action on the active canvas. Canvas shortcuts do not run during text entry or IME composition, or while a dialog or orientation notice is open.
  • Moving content. The home-page slideshow initially advances every five seconds. Choosing a slide with the previous/next arrows, page dots, arrow keys, or a swipe stops automatic advances until the page is opened again. It also pauses while hovered, while keyboard focus is inside, or while the screen is hidden, and follows your system's reduced-motion setting.

2. Known limits

  • Character-key shortcut controls. Single-key shortcuts cannot be turned off, remapped, or restricted to when a particular control has focus. The character-key shortcut control requirement in WCAG 2.1.4 is not yet met.
  • Free-hand drawing needs a pointer. Drawing your piece and adding lines to the guesser's doodle board are done with a mouse, finger, or stylus. There is no keyboard equivalent; submitting an empty piece is always possible, so a round never gets stuck.
  • The stitched picture has a limited text alternative. The merged drawing is described as who drew which quadrant (or which artist contributed in Crop mode) plus the prompt and the guess. The drawing content itself is not described — that is the joke the players make together on voice chat.
  • Result images. Saved PNG files contain the same caption text as the screen but are still pictures.

3. Time limits

The host chooses the drawing time per round from 5 to 90 seconds before starting. The final guess is a single line with a fixed 10-second window today; if it runs out the round records "ran out of time" instead of a guess and continues — nothing is judged and no one loses. If you need a longer drawing time, ask the host to pick a larger preset.

4. How we check

Keyboard-only navigation in current Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, and automated contrast, dialog, and layout tests that run with every change. Screen-reader behaviour is verified by hand and may lag behind a new release.

5. Report a barrier

If something blocks you, tell us which screen, which browser, and what assistive technology you used. We answer through the same channels as the rest of the playtest:
